Monday’s Bread Bowl: Cream Smothered Cabbage



Savory sweetness delights

Fried bacon enhances the natural taste and flavors of cabbage This is comfort food at its best.

What you will need:

1 cast-iron skillet
1 wooden spoon
1/3 large head of cabbage, sliced
6 slices bacon
1/2 an onion
1-tablespoon flour
1-cup cream or evaporated milk
Pinch of salt & pepper

Cooking and Directions:

Fry bacon in cast-iron skillet until crispy.  Remove bacon leaving behind drippings.  Crumble bacon and set aside.  Sautee onion in bacon drippings until translucent.  Next, add cabbage.  Stir well.  Let cabbage wilt down a bit then pour in milk (or cream).  Toss well.  Let ingredients cook for 3 to 5 more minutes.  Sprinkle bacon on top then serve.
